Coast Guard Support

Boat Crew Picture

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary provides direct support to the Coast Guard in many ways. Some of the support activities are as follows:

bulletCrew augmentation - Auxilarists train for and serve as boat crew members on many Coast Guard vessels.
bulletRadio Watch standers -   Auxilarists train for and serve as watch standers at Coast Guard facilities such as Station Golden Gate, Station Rio Vista and Station San Francisco.
bulletMarine Safety -  Auxilarists train for and support Coast Guard marine safety activities.
bulletAdministrative Support -  Auxilarists train for and support administrative activities at the DIRAUX (Director of Auxiliary) office, Group San Francisco and other USCG facilities.
bulletSafety Patrols -  Auxilarists perform safety patrols under control of USCG stations to aid boaters with potential or actual problems when underway.
bulletMobile Patrols -  Auxilarists perform mobile radio patrols to support USCG Search and Rescue operations. These patrols often coordinate with other state agencies over pre-assigned radio networks.
bulletAir Operations -  Auxilarists fly their own aircraft to aid in Search and Rescue operations and to transport selected USCG members for official functions.
bulletAids to Navigation -  Auxilarists monitor all navigation aids for potential problems. They are responsible for verifying proper operation of privately owned navigation aids.
bulletSearch and Rescue coordination - Auxiliary watchstanders work directly with Group San Francisco and Coast Guard stations to coordinate supporting Auxiliary resources.
bulletTraining - Auxiliary personnel and vessels assist the Coast Guard in training their people for Search and Rescue activities.
bulletRegatta Support - Auxiliary vessels and mobile patrols help the Coast Guard control boating activities associated with events such as Opening Day, Fleet Week, and boat races.

The Coast Guard is continually finding new ways for the Auxiliary to provide support. This allows them to provide improved services and to concentrate their limited personnel's efforts on critical activities. At the same time it provides Auxiliary members an opportunity to become directly involved in daily Coast Guard activities.
