Division IV Administration Public Education Vessel Safety Checks Member Training Member Activities Member Quals Coast Guard Support Flotillas Useful Links
| | Member Training
Member
training is performed over a wide range of topics with the degree of formality
optimized to the training need. Some training is performed in large classes as
shown, while other training is performed in smaller classes or one-on-one
with the instructors. For some subjects, outside experts provide training
and qualification on disciplines not presently available within the Coast Guard
or the Auxiliary (ie: emergency medical or computer technology).
Member
training is coordinated with local and national Coast Guard Units. This insures
that Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel are qualified to support Coast Guard
operations and to represent the Coast Guard in many activities. In many cases
Coast Guard training billets are made available to Auxiliarists to bring them up
to the same skill level as the active Coast Guard personnel.

Purpose
– Inform members on the many aspects of training available to them,
hopefully with description sufficient to generate interest. Where
possible, information on qualification requirements, source of study
materials, and how to take examinations are provided. Training
opportunities are also listed, being updated when new information
arrives. The current contents describe but a small portion of the entire
“training universe”. More will be added in the future.
·
Online –
A self-paced training method. Go to
http://www.auxetrain.org. This website contains study materials as
well as examinations. For some topics, the exact study materials
required by the examinations are “inside” the Exam Gateway. Click “On
Line Exams”, then click “Exam Gateway”. Most are Open Book exams –
passing score of 90% answers correct, 3 hours time limit. Can take exams
for practice, and as many times as necessary till passing grade. Closed
book exams require proctoring. A list of proctors is provided for your
choosing. Generally a passing score of 75% answers correct, no time
limit.
·
Note
that for some topics, study materials or manuals are available only in
print. Request those through your Materials officer.

request those from DIRAUX ahead of taking the exams.
·
Training
process for some qualifications such as Crew or Coxswain requires a
