Member Training
Member
training is performed over a wide range of topics with the degree of formality
optimized to the training need. Some training is performed in large classes as
shown, while other training is performed in smaller classes or one-on-one
with the instructors. For some subjects, outside experts provide training
and qualification on disciplines not presently available within the Coast Guard
or the Auxiliary (ie: emergency medical or computer technology).
Member
training is coordinated with local and national Coast Guard Units. This insures
that Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel are qualified to support Coast Guard
operations and to represent the Coast Guard in many activities. In many cases
Coast Guard training billets are made available to Auxiliarists to bring them up
to the same skill level as the active Coast Guard personnel.
Mission Qualification Training includes:

throughout the district.
Member training activities are at minimal cost to members. Members
should contact flotilla or division Member Training officers (or elected
officers) to coordinate their need for specific training. Member attendance at
currently scheduled training sessions requires coordination through MT officers or
the sponsoring organization.

ICS Training is now a requirement of the Operations program
and must be completed by May 31 2006 or members will not be authorized as Coxswain
or Crew on auxiliary patrols.
As of February 2006, the ALCOAST from G-RPP announcing the revised dates
for completion of Incident Command System (IS) coursework for CG Auxiliary
forces has not been issued. Since there are both Area and District directives
published, some members have expressed concerns about the apparent conflict
between the dates published and the dates proposed. In an effort to resolve this
conflict, CG Auxiliary members are directed to comply with directives published
by CG Area and District commands until CG Headquarters guidance is available.
What is the Director of Auxiliary's and National
Commodore's
requirements for completing the ICS Courses?
Any member designated “direct operational” (DO) by the Personnel Security
Investigations (PSI) process should take IS 100 and IS 700. The following
categories of participation require a DO designation:
Surface operations
Air operations
Operations planning
Interpreters
CMDCEN/OPCEN/COMMS watchstanding
Fixed/mobile radio facility operators
Port security
Marine Safety & Security
Some Staff officers <
As deemed by Operational Commander
CGAUX Health Care Volunteers (G-WK program supported by (COMDTINST 6010.2
dtd 21 Jan 03))
IS 200, 210 and IS 800 will be required for Auxiliary leadership and
Single Unit Resource Leaders (SURLs) (i.e. Auxiliary coxswains, pilots, any
member qualifying in the Trident program or any other team/task force leader).
How long do I have to complete the required
courses?
The IS coursework described above is not required for any qualification.
The consequence for failure to take these courses has been left to the
discretion of the individual command, based on management of current tasking,
force strength and implementation of individual training plans. Similarly, the
National Commodore, in partnership with G-PCX, has determined the consequences
for Auxiliary members who fail to complete coursework as assigned. The following
table provides the approved dates for the implementation of an action affecting
the Auxiliary member's status or participation.
| Timeline for ICS Course Requirements
